Diesel Oxidation Catalyst

The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) was first implemented in diesel vehicles for mining applications in 1967. Following the introduction of the initial emissions restrictions on CO and HC in 1970, various catalysts, including Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC), were developed and utilized in diesel vehicles.

Initially, metals such as copper and nickel were tested for their sensitivity to diesel fuel contents. However, due to their high sensitivity to diesel fuel contents, platinum group metals like platinum and palladium were adopted. These metals possess notable oxidizing properties and adequate heat resistance. In some cases, radium is added to the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) to reduce nitrogen oxides. Regarding vehicle emissions in diesel engines, diesel oxidation catalysts lead to reduced CO, HC, and activated organic compounds, and consequently, a decrease in particulate matter emitted from the engine.
